We do too.

In fact, that was one of the inspirations behind the Street Food Chef.  We wanted to be able to go out for something quick to eat and feel great afterwards.  We love it when we eat out, and the food is ‘clean’ – do you know what I mean?  The food tastes fresh, perhaps using simple ingredients, the flavours stand out and complement each other well.

So, when we started trading in 2010, we felt very strongly that we should make everything from scratch, using fresh ingredients, and that is still true to day.  We take daily deliveries of fresh tomatoes and avocados, meat and spices, and our wonderful kitchen ladies – Iza, Darcus, Emma and Az, oh and Jon – not strictly a lady – turn them into mole sauce, picante salsa, pulled pork etc.  No additives or nasties at all.

Over the years, this has developed, you lot (our wonderful customers) have become more discerning.  Quite rightly you want to know more about what is in everything, you need to be able to choose something that has no gluten or dairy in, you want to be able to eat fast food that has been made with care.  Maybe you are watching your weight, or training for your next challenge, or maybe you simply want to be able to grab something for lunch and not have to worry about what’s in it.

So all our food is ‘built’ bearing this in mind, and when we open at Glossop Road on Monday, we are launching our new Healthier Options menu in all three shops.  (Healthier, because actually there is nothing unhealthy about a regular burrito, or tacos….)  This menu showcases some of our existing menu items;  the Prime Mover Plate and Kurts Burrito; and introduces the gluten free Torta and gluten free tacos:

The Prime Mover Plate is designed by the guys at Prime Mover Gym, and is inspired by the Paleo diet, it is dairy and grain free – it comes with a main filling (pork, beef etc), black beans, guacamole, iceberg lettuce, pico de gallo, a salsa of your choice and jalapenos.  It is gluten and dairy free.

Kurts Burrito is designed by our nutritionist, Kurt Bergin Taylor, it is low fat and high in protein – it comes with chicken in a smoky sauce, guacamole, black beans, pico de gallo, salsa, iceberg, all wrapped up in a spinach tortilla.  It is dairy free.

20160119_120440-1Torta, comes in a gluten free bun, choose a main filling, with black beans, guacamole and salsa.  It is gluten and dairy free, and absolutely yummy,
20160122_111756 (2)Crunchy corn tacos, exactly the same as our delicious tacos, but held in a corn taco shell.  These are gluten free, and can be dairy free if you ask not to have the sour cream.

At the moment, we don’t feature the calories content on our website, (please get in touch, and I am happy to give you an estimate), is this something you would now like to see?  Kurt and I feel that as our food is nutrient rich and doesn’t contain any nasties, that calorie counting is not particularly useful, however I would be interested to hear what you think.

Finally, I wanted to say a little bit more about our philosophy about food, and preparing it and serving it.  Of course, The Street Food Chef is a business, we have to make money to survive.  And we can’t think of a better way to make a living, providing the fuel you need to get on and do your thing.  We genuinely take this seriously, we treat all of our food and ingredients with love, thinking hard about what goes in, so you can be reassured that what you are putting in is going to make you feel great. And of course, making sure it tastes great too!
